Gill & Gill Architects provided full architectural services for adaptive reuse of a Nineteenth Century 19,800 sf masonry and timber factory building. The project included complete replacement of historic windows, reconstruction of floors, repointing and repair of masonry walls, and replacement of a 72’ long elongated pyramid skylight, along with new 900 sf low-slope roofing with tapered insulation.
This project transformed the abandoned factory into a Community Health Center and Job Training Facility on the first floor, and transitional studio apartments on the second floor.
This transformational comprehensive facility was completed using a combination of private endowments, CT DOH, CHFA and SHPO funding. The project team earned a Preservation Merit Award from Connecticut Preservation.
